“A warm, encouraging studio. My kids love their classes and the focus on real training over competition.”
Professional training, not competition
Step in Motion Dance is a St. Cloud studio that teaches hip hop alongside ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary and musical theater in what it calls a faith-centered environment. Classes are organized by age and level — from a 3-to-5 introductory group up through Level 2 (8 and up) and Level 3 (10 and up) — with additional tracks like homeschool classes, adult Zumba and an infant "Bounce Baby Boogie" program, so hip hop fits into a broad, family-oriented ladder.
What sets the studio apart is its stated "Professional Training, Not Competition" philosophy: instead of chasing trophies, it channels serious dancers into the SMD SET performance program that prepares them "for careers in the performing arts through performances at professional venues." Some classes use exclusively Christian music, including "Praise Hip Hop," reflecting the studio's faith-and-family identity. With a 4.9 rating across 62 reviews and a free first class, it's a strong pick for families who want technique and stage experience over the competitive circuit.
